Medical Dermatology Services
Acne Treatments
If you have been using over-the-counter products containing ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid without success or have a lot of acne, including cysts or nodules, it is time to see a skin care expert for your condition.
Seeing one of our skin specialists for professional acne treatment can reduce and prevent breakouts. When you meet with one of our experts, they will recommend an acne treatment plan that is best for your skin type. There are also a variety of cosmetic dermatological options, including chemical peels or microdermabrasion, that are available to help return your skin to its radiant appearance.
Allergic Reactions
For mild rashes and irritations, you should be able to treat the condition at the home with over-the-counter medications. However, if the rash persists after treatment at home and is accompanied by hives, red blotchy skin or fever, you may need to make an appointment for a professional dermatology consultation.
Some of the common things that can cause allergic skin reactions include:
- Poison ivy
- Nickel
- Clothing fabric
- Belts
- Latex
- Hair dyes
- Citrus fruits
- Fragrances used in soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc.
Eczema
Symptoms for eczema include dry, itchy and red skin caused by inflammation. Skin can even become cracked and leathery and outbreaks can occur on any part of the body. These patches of dry, itchy and thickened skin usually appear on the hands, face, neck and legs. Children are often affected in the knees and elbow areas.
If you have an itchy rash or inflammation that hasn’t responded to a week of over-the-counter treatment, or you develop blisters on your skin, it may be time to schedule an appointment with your local Radiant Complexions skin care specialist.
Excessive Sweating
Many people who have hyperhidrosis sweat from one or two areas of the body. Most often, they sweat from their palms, feet, underarms or head. While the rest of the body remains dry, one or two areas may drip with sweat.
Common treatments include:
- Antiperspirants
- Botox Injections
- Prescription Medicine
- Qbrexza (a medicated towelette)
Fungal Infections
Fairly common fungal skin infections like athlete’s foot, yeast infections, ringworm and jock itch can be bothersome. They are caused by a microscopic fungus and can be contagious, but they are easily treatable.
Many fungal skin infections can be cleared up with anti-fungal creams or medications. However, if over-the-counter creams have not provided you with relief, or if the infection is cracked, oozing or bleeding, schedule an appointment at one of our dermatology clinics.
Genital Herpes
Herpes is an extremely common sexually transmitted infection (STI). There are two major types of herpes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 herpes, often called oral herpes or cold sores, generally infects the mouth. However, it can also cause genital infections. Type 2 herpes, known as genital herpes, causes most cases of genital infections involving herpes. However, it can also cause oral symptoms, as well.
There is no cure for herpes, but there are treatments that can help prevent outbreaks or make them less severe. Treatment can also make it less likely you will spread the disease to your sexual partner.
Moles
Most adults have many moles by adulthood, and most moles are harmless. If a mole is not bothersome and is not changing in shape, color, appearance or texture during your regular skin care checks, there is no need to worry or have it removed. However, if you are bothered by a mole and the way it impacts your appearance or have concerns a mole might be cancerous, call your local RC Dermatology clinic today to learn more about mole removal.
Ask your Radiant Complexions Dermatology expert to perform a mole check, and be sure to schedule an appointment as soon as you notice any differences or changes in your skin’s appearance.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease that results in the body’s skin cells growing too quickly without shedding the old cells. It can cause thick and patchy skin, usually found on the knees, elbows, back and scalp.
Seeing a skin care expert about your psoriasis can prevent your condition from getting worse and can minimize the symptoms. Ask your Radiant Complexions skin care consultant what treatment options are available (including prescriptions, creams or fractional laser treatments) to minimize symptoms and to improve your skin's appearance.
Shingles
While most common in older adults, if you have ever had chicken pox, you can get shingles. You may have a skin rash that turns into blisters, which may turn yellow or bloody before they scab and heal.
While the shingles rash can clear up after a few weeks, seeing your Radiance Complexions Dermatology team is still recommended. Not only can they make you more comfortable, but without treatment, additional symptoms such as pain and tingling may last for months or years.
Warts
Most warts go away within months or years on their own. However, treatment provides faster results. While some self-treatments for warts are available without a prescription, you may want to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist to be sure you are actually treating a wart. Many warts can look similar to skin cancers, which require diagnosis and treatment by a skincare professional.
Your Radiant Complexions dermatology professional can determine whether you do have a wart and can make recommendations for possible treatment or removal, if needed.
