Botox®

Looking for a solutions for those smile lines, crow’s feet or frown lines that have started to appear? Botox® is a safe and FDA approved solution to help soften and eliminate wrinkles.

What is Botox®?
Botox is the trade name for botulinum, a naturally derived muscle relaxant. Over time, the movement of facial muscles will cause folds and wrinkles to form on the face. Botox®, a highly purified muscle relaxant, can be injected into the offending muscles, allowing the skin to relax and the folds to soften or disappear.

Does Botox® Hurt?
Botox® is injected using a small needle similar to an acupuncture needle, which causes very little pain when injected. While some patients have a mild stinging sensation, the procedure is generally painless for most individuals.

How Does Botox® Work?
When a small amount of Botox® is injected into a muscle, it blocks nerve signals that tell your muscles to contract. The effect is that it temporarily weakens the facial muscles and smooths or eliminates wrinkles in the skin for a few months. Botox is most often used on forehead lines, crow’s feet (lines around the eye), and frown lines. Wrinkles caused by sun damage and gravity will not respond to Botox.

How Is a Botox® Procedure Done?
Getting Botox® takes only a few minutes and doesn’t require anesthesia. Botox® is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles and only causes only minor discomfort. It typically takes three to seven days for Botox® to take full effect, and it is best to avoid alcohol starting at least one week before the procedure. You should also stop taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications before a treatment to reduce bruising.

Is Botox® Safe?

Botox® is a relatively safe procedure for most people. However, if you are pregnant or have egg allergies, please talk to your Radiant Complexions skin care expert to decide if Botox® is right for you.

What To Expect After Botox® Treatment
For the first 2 to 3 hours after treatment, take it easy and do not rub the treated area. After that, you can return to your regular activities. It can take 3 to 4 days before you notice an effect from the Botox and the full effect may take up to 1 week. Some individuals might have some slight bruising around the injection site for a day or two that can easily be concealed with makeup.

How Long Does Botox® Last?
With steady use Botox® can last up to 4 to 6 months before you will begin to see the wrinkles return. In the beginning you can expect up to three months of improvement. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles will begin to reappear and need to be treated again. To see continued results, schedule additional follow up Botox® treatments from your Radiant Complexions skin care specialist. Your fine lines and wrinkles may appear less severe with time after multiple treatments because the muscles are being trained to relax.

Does Botox® Have Other Uses?
The same Botox® that is so useful for wrinkles can also solve the problem of excessive sweating. The FDA has approved the use of Botox® for excessive underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis). With Botox® injections, patients can be free of excessive sweating for up to seven months.
